Okay. This post is not about jewelry! I decided to write about my current reads. If you look to the right side of my site, you'll notice the three latest books on my list. I loaned The Surrogate to Val. I really enjoyed it, but didn't mark it for quotes. Oh, let me explain the last part of that sentence. I usually mark my books for quotes or interesting things that I'd like to remember or possibly refer back to. I guess it's a habit from all the notetaking I did in school. I do that to a lot of things I read. It's a habit. If something grabs my attention for an extra second or two, I mark it. Strange? Well, I don't know anyone else who does this, so if you do, then please reveal yourself to me so I won't think I'm so strange! In "How to Be Lost," I only marked two things. The first, "When you are small, if you reach out, and nobody takes your hand, you stop reaching out, and reach inside, instead. That's just the way it was," page 41. The second, "All I knew was how to be lost," page 273. I think the first one caught my attention because of my counseling/psych background. The second was the whole theme of the book, but I thought it might work well in a collage.
I also, just got a new zine! I used to really be into zines a couple of years ago, before I went back to school. With school, I was just to busy for zines, art, creativity, etc. - Yikes, it's scary to write that. Since, I quit school in February 2005, I started my subscription to Artitude Zine again, but not any of the others (some have since stopped publication). Well, last week, I decided to finally subscribe to another zine that I've wanted to order for some time now. I got it today! It's Artella by Marney Makridakis! I haven't had time to read through it yet, but I received Issue 8 and 9. It looks wonderful - full color! An e-zine also comes with the subscription!
I've been getting the newletters for some time and visited the website, but these zines look 10 times more yummy and wonderful! Issue 8 came with a CD of audio interviews with SARK and other artisis, 18 accompanying music tracks, and 5 songs by singer-songwriter Serena Matthews. You are supposed to play the tracks with the piece that the zine instructs you to. There are goodies included in the zine as well. In the back, is a mystery game sort of thing. It tells you what to look for (ten small paintings) and how to put the clues together to answer the question for this issue, "What IS the meaning of life?" Once you gather the clues, you can go to a website and get your prize! Too cool. I haven't done it yet, but it sounds great! Hopefully, I'll have some time before the weekend to go through Issue 8 find and out what the prize is! I listened to part of the CD (the music tracks) some of them are really cool. I think my favorite is the first track. It's so relaxing. It sounds like a nose flute or fife being played with inclusions of running water and other soothing sounds. Pretty cool. I included the link to Artella site. Just click on "Artella."
Val and I have another playday tomorrow - Yay!
