I started crocheting a red cap with some of my purchase from the new yarn shop in Aiea - Judy's Yarns - U'i a mau a mau. Being a beginner, I was having some problems. The first part went okay. It was done in single crochet. Here's a pic of the single crocheted part:
Hmm . . . the picture is a bit blurry, but it's just a spiral done in single crochet. Can you see my stitch marker? Yay! I'm using it! Here's a close up of the stitch marker. It's one of my new ones for Spring!
Okay, so then I got to the shell stitch part. Oiy! I tried it the way the instructions were written but it didn't look right. So after I finished 2 rows, I took it off ( I think it's called "frogging"? or maybe that's only in knitting?). Anyway, I tried to modify the instructions, like I could make it any better, the beginner that I am. Nope. This time I only did 1 row. Took it all off. Then I thought maybe I followed the instructions wrong, so I did it the first way again 1 1/2 rows. Took it all off. Ugh. I did take a pic though of a portion of one of my attempts.
I put it away for the night.
Today, in between taking J to sewing and T to a volleyball tournament (where by the way she sprained her finger before we even set up our chairs!), I went to Judy's shop. Guess what? The instructions were wrong. She didn't write it though. She helped me fix it and get back on track. I did notice however that my stitches were so tight compare to hers, so I ended up taking the whole thing out. Yup! Starting from the beginning. Right now I'm almost half way through the single crochet part. Using my happy Spring stitch marker makes it more cheery to crochet each row so I don't feel frustrated or irritated yet. :) I'll post a pic of the finished product if I ever get that far!
oh oops just kiddin', I think I found something here: http://www.hook-and-hype.de/?lp_lang_pref=en&page_id=100

Help! I've been working on amigurumi, and I can't master this crochet in the rounds business! I have made 2 things and they have this ugly seem that runs diagonal the diameter. I can't find a book or online tutorial that can dumb this down enough for me. There are too many factors where I could be messing this up: in the way I am joining, starting each round or perhaps even counting. plzz help :O
